Steelhead are the elusive fish of lake Erie.  Anglers spend countless hours trolling on the lake or standing in freezing river water to catch these bright colorful fish.  In the summer time anglers will troll off of Wheatley Ontario or north of Avon point in search of the schools.  Once they find the schools of steelhead the action can be fast and furious.  Most anglers, however, choose to seek them in the rivers in the fall thru spring time frame.  In the fall steelhead move to the rivers where they were released to spawn.  Unlike salmon steelhead can return to the lake several seasons in a row.
